Wigan Golf Club

What we say

This delightful 18 hole park land course threads its way through magnificent mature trees and provides a challenge that is mastered by few. The Club dates back to 1898 and the historical Club House, Arley Hall, is surrounded by a 12th Century moat.

Originally constructed as a nine hole course in 1898 and later extended to eighteen holes, Wigan Golf Club is a very pleasant parkland golf course - it threads its way through magnificent mature trees - which offers a good test of golf on fairly level terrain.

The extended golf course was designed by Gaunt & Marnock and incorporates modern specification greens which provide excellent playing surfaces throughout the year.

Whilst not extremely long by modern standards the 6,008 yards (back tees) layout has stood the test of time with the golf course record still a respectable three-under-par 67.

I took a group of friends to WGC, we had an excellent day with some good golf played, the course has some challenging holes but overall not too difficult and very enjoyable. The greens had been treated for the winter 2 weeks earlier but were still very playable. The hospitality was excellent all round. The 8 of us have decide to return next summer. There is no Pro shop but if you know this when you book you can take your own refreshments. See you next summer W.G.C.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Wigan Golf Club - great place to play golf

    By David Aldred

The clubhouse is very impressive with it's own moat!! The parkland course and greens are first class and the course considering it was a friday afternoon in September was very quiet. The club has an exclusive feel and has very limited membership to keep it that way. However they have a deal on each day that one party of upto 4 people can play for just £20 each which is well worth the money. This course is just around the corner from me and I would join at a drop of a hat if was not for the £1000 joining fee.   Watch out for Mr Dave Whelan (chairman of Wigan FC) who is a regular of the course.   Highly recommended.
