Hesketh Golf Club

What we say

Set amidst the towering Victorian villas of Southport’s premier residential area – Hesketh Park – is Hesketh Golf Club, the town’s oldest golf club, founded in 1885. Standing alone on the crest of a tall sandhill, the clubhouse dominates the golf course, and the surrounding district.

Hesketh Golf Club sets something of a unique challenge – while half the holes thread their way through the dunes, several others border the Ribble estuary and have a parkland-cum-links feel about them. The final five holes are as good as any finishing stretch.

A lovely fusion of breezy links and tree-lined parkland holes that began life as Southport Golf Club in 1885, making it the town’s oldest golf club. Several holes run alongside the bird sanctuary of the Ribble Estuary but it’s the seven seaside holes that make the course special.

The golf course – the oldest in Southport (founded in 1885) – is at the northern end of south-west Lancashire`s sand dune system, which is the home of so many great golfing venues. Professional championship golf has been played on these famous old links from the golf club`s earliest days, and the golf course is regularly used as a final qualifying golf course when The Open is played at Royal Birkdale.
