Heswall Golf Club

What we say

Heswall was founded in 1902 and from the outset it was designed as an 18-hole course. It has been altered and extended on many occasions. Its length has increased from 5115 yards in 1909 to 6556 yards today. Several famed architects have given the club the benefit of their expertise, including Jack Morris, nephew of Old Tom, who designed the original layout, Harry Vardon, Frank Pennink and Donald Steel – the latter is currently working on modifications, including three new holes, which should be ready for the start of the new season.

I suggest that heswall should be payed more attention and that it should be much higher in the rankings. It should be competing in at least the top 20 in the north west. Much better than the currently ranked 40. Maybe the course should be re-ranked now that it has been redeveloped.

Last year I was staying on the beutiful wirral peninsula along side the Dee. While I was there I played wallasey, caldy and then heswall. Overall I gave this club 5 stars as in my opinion it is one of the best parkland courses in the north of england and also the best club in the area (exceptions for the royal liverpool!).The majority of the members were very kind and welcoming, but most of all, they're glad to see you at their golf club, somewhere they are very proud of. And so they should be. The clubhouse and course underwent some worthwhile developments last year. The clubhouse now has brilliant balconys of wich overlook the course, the dee,and the beautiful welsh mountains. The interior has also been refurnished, includind a new spike bar where golf shoes are allowed. The course is on a gentle slope making the welsh mountains visible from many parts of the upper course and virtually all of the lower course. It is in fabulous condition from tee to green, from 1st to 18th. It is a pretty tricky course that tests not only your swing but your mental approach to the game. There is lots and lots of water including a few little burns/streams adding to the difficulty of the new layout. The facilities are great including a brilliant range and brilliant food from a restraunt with spectacular views. In conclusion, a brilliant example of a brilliant golf club.
