Aldwark Manor Golf Club

What we say

Starts and ends with a par-3, a 6187 yard par 72 test of skill and accuracy. It’s an easy walking parkland layout split by the meandering River Ure which is crossed by a footbridge. There are many interesting features including mature trees, water hazards and of course the River Ure which serve to provide some unique and challenging holes.

  • 4 out of 5 Great, challenging course

Don't normally leave reviews, but I felt the older ones below don't truly reflect how decent this course is! Well maintained with nice greens, this course has some very tricky holes. Narrow fairways and water hazards keep you on your toes, with some real beauties to enjoy, like the short par 3 18th. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone, but golfers with a high handicap might be advised to pack a few extra balls (I know I do!).

This could be a nice course.... but whoever looks after it needed to be aborted at birth.  I know I played it in the winter, and I expect a few winter tees, maybe a few winter greens.  But to see seven or eight holes with just a flag stick infront of the green is beyond the joke!!!  Nowhere near the winter greens and just infront of the green itself is enough to drive you wild.  Putting was near impossible and as a result, the round was as good as wrecked. Other than that, its a reasonably nice course, one or two lovely holes.  I thought the 18th was an absolute gem of a par three.  Accuracy is key as being off the fairways can be punnished.  On the fairways themselves there are one of two huge trees to cause you a bit of a headache.  It is a little cramped in places.  The designers could have used the land a little wiser and avioded some of the conjestion towards the end of the round.  But for the fee, you can not grumble about it too much. I just wished they would sort out those greens.  Ruined what could have been a nice round.

Nice setting around old manor house and river. In good condition when played although closed due to flooding a week after we played. Set around river which did not come into play as often as you'd imagine. Greens quite soft, certainly held a full shot. Bunkers in good condition.

  • 1.5 out of 5 Any decent golfer avoid!!!

    By Paul Dove

Any decent golfer who plays this course will not wish to return, the holes in the Manor grounds are horrendous and that's being kind. Tee boxes pointing across other holes and 7 holes cramed into the space that should have only taken 4, 5 at the most. When we walked on to the 3rd tee we counted 16 golfers not including ourselves!! The par 4 16th is the biggest joke hole I have ever played, it is a dog leg to the left and is so short that I hit 9 iron off the tee and then wedge into the green!!! There are 1 or 2 reasnable holes on the whole course and the general condition of the tees and greens is good but who ever designed the course want's shooting, terrible!!

  • 4.5 out of 5 top class golf for affordable price

the condition of this course for the time of year was championship standard, the greens could not have been any better.the manor building looks fantastic in the background..pro shop was exellent and so were the locker room facilities...and the 18th is something very very special....allround we had a great day there,,,but the only slight complaint was the bar prices at the 19th but the course was so good the price of drinks pales in comparison

  • 1.5 out of 5 Course layout leaves a lot to be desired

    By mkennedy

A fairly benign course, with a couple of nice holes. However the arrangment of the course is not good at all. Playing the tee shot from 15 across the third fairway is a terrible idea as is having the tee shot from the 14th aimed squarely at the 4th tee. to many of the fairways run parallel and this causes delays and a few too many nerves on the tee. It is about the right price when used with a 2fore1 voucher. There are many courses in the local area that are a lot better and a lot cheaper £35 a round is too much.

This is a Very Nice, affordable, course the fairways, greens etc are all in excellent condition even this early in the season. Its quite open in places and for a golfer who has a slice like me i didnt loose one ball. There are some interesting water hazards including the river which you play across and along side. Overall well worth the visit, and will be going again soon.

Stayed here for 2 nights in June 2006 and played 3 rounds. Hotel very nice. Food excellent. Course very good. Not particularly long. Some holes are within manor grounds - not particularly exciting but very pleasant. Most holes (c12 I recall) are the other side of a country road and are much better - longer and more scenic. Overall recommend as a nice away break.
