What we say

Forest of Galtres Golf Club's parkland golf course is located in an extremely convenient location just 2 miles north of York and  lies amidst attractive countryside in the heart of the ancient Forest of Galtres from which the golf glub takes its name.

Visitors are able to enjoy a challenging game of golf in a tranquil, rural setting. Our greens are all raised and have been constructed in accordance with (USGA) guidelines in order to create putting surfaces capable of all year round play.  Three lakes create interesting water hazards. Various Society packages are available or please make up your own.

  • 4 out of 5 Lovely course well layed out and maintained

My first visit was unfortunately cut short by an angry storm which was a shame because my two friends and myself were thoroughly enjoying our round. The course was in very good condition as was the practice putting green. We managed to reach the eleventh tee when a bolt of lightening evolved from some very dark storm clouds but upto then we enjoyed some very good standard challenging holes with some forgiveness off the tee. The greens were fair and in excellent condition and although I never managed to find a bunker they were of a good soft condition (as both my friends discovered). The price was excellent and the facilities, locker room and wash room very spacious and clean. We had a snack from the kitchen before and refreshments afterwards again the upstairs bar was very nice and all employees were friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be visiting again soon and hopefully see what the last eight holes have to offer.

this course is a gem in the making and i agree with the previous review that it will only get better with time. excellent club house with very welcoming staff and the food and drink were top notch. its a flat parkland course so its good for all levels of fitness however this is compensated by having well placed bunkers and lakes throughout the course and the dog legs greet you with a couple of large mature trees , the new plantations again over time will make you think about your club selection when stood on the tee . I would say that there is a signature hole which is the par 3 6th where you have to carry the lake for about 150 yards so good club selection is a must. keeping straight is more important as hitting big on the par 5s as once your in the rough, well you will see ! overall we had an excellent day and thinking about coming back later in the year for our captains day, you will be impressed  by the money you spend, well done to the Forest of Galtres team.

Lovely course that will only get better over time. Facilities are perfect.  The greens and bunkers were spot on too.  The rough, was well, rough.  Fairways were top notch.  Quite a few holes have bunkers on the fairways that make you think a little about your shot off the tee. I think the course does miss a signature hole but for the money you spend, you can do a lot worse. Well worth a visit.
