Pannal Golf Club

What we say

It’s been entertaining and enthralling golfers since being created by Sandy Herd in 1906. Laid out on gorse-covered, tree-lined land, Pannal has staged many prestigious events down the years including the Open Championship Regional Qualifier, Yorkshire County Championship and the 1975 British Youths won by a certain Nick Faldo. Stunning views, too.

Pannal Golf Club was founded in 1906 on land leased from The 5th Earl of Harewood, who became club president, and a nine-hole golf course was opened. However, the need soon arose for 18 holes and Sandy Herd, Open winner in 1902, was retained to lay out the golf course. An exhibition match between James Braid and Harry Vardon signalled the official opening of the extended course in April 1908.

  • 5 out of 5 Great course, fabulous views

    By Bruceyboy

What a great course - first 6 holes are really tricky and the views get better as you climb to the upper parts of the course. Immaculately prepared with consistent, smooth greens. 17th is a great signature hole - tricky par 3 , with tee shot over a valley and a green guarded by three large bunkers. Would definitely play again when visiting Harrogate.

  • 3 out of 5 A real anti climax!!

After all the hype I couldn't wait to play Pannal...and what a let down!! The course gets boringly monotonous after not too long. The 17th though is a great hole, and the greens were in excellent condition. Worth a visit but not worth the hype in my view.
