York Golf Club

What we say

Predominantly a heathland track, York’s fairways are flat but tree-lined so big hitters must temper power with accuracy in order to safely navigate their way around. Keeping it straight is also important to miss the many traps dotted alongside the fairways and greens.

York Golf Club is York's oldest golf club, formed in 1890 and moved to Strensall in 1904, the layout being designed by J.H. Taylor. In the early days of the golf course it was very open; the fairways are now tree-lined but the flat golf course retains its natural heathland and heather heritage. York golf club hosts many county events and stages one of Yorkshire's premier 36-hole amateur competitions - The York Rose Bowl.
