Completely ruined the par 3 course by replacing the standard holes with holes 18inches in diameter, ruined it for us,.

  • 4 out of 5 A little gem!

I moved to Sheffield a couple of months ago and discovered this course by chance. I've played Tankersley Park, Stocksbridge and Birley Wood, and in terms of the welcome, value for monry and overall test, this is my favourite. Yes I accept that the holes are not long, but for a mid to high handicapper, this is a real test. The 7th is beautiful, even if I can't par it!! However my favourite is the 17th. A short dog leg that opens out to a stunning tree lined green. The greens are fine and my only niggle is that in the dry weather the fairways are prone to an uneven bounce on occasions. However, for the green fee/membership fees this course is outstanding value.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Course isn't great!

I had high hopes for this course but sadly i was dissapointed. Some tee's were uneven and the fairways were short of some grass here and there. The greens looked batted and weary and were very slow even though rain had been minimal recently. The bunkers were terrible and you couldn't get the club under the ball because there was so little sand. The course is also far too short. not one hole over 500 yards and all par 4's are reachable in two and i don't hit the ball that far. It made me look better than i am shooting an 86 when my handycaps 22. The 7th is a little gem however! Beutiful down hill par three to an 'island green' which is absolutely stunning and makes the rest of the course look even worse than it actually is. The staff were very friendly and the price was really good. Food was also very nice afterwards.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Holding up despite the wet!

This is my local course and, although I don't get out as often as I'd like, I've played it plenty. Even as a high handicapper, you can give it a good go knowing you won't be punished too severely when your inevitable slice kicks in. This course is not for the unfit though, you can hire a buggy, but for the bag carriers it's a fair old test of stamina. There are hills aplenty all round the course and water comes into play in either a major or minor way on at least six of the holes, with the par 5 18th having water all over the place and the short par 3 7th having a virtual island green some 40 feet below the tee. As someone who measures their success in terms of balls lost rather than birdies, it's good to know that you're made welcome by all, staff and fellow players alike. They have a new online booking facility and I paid a bargain £13.50 last week for a Friday mid-morning tee time. The course was holding up depsite the huge amounts of rain we've had in the area, although preferred lies were the order of the day. The greens were in good condition and a decent test. Weather permitting, for this fair weather golfer, I'll be back for more.
