Cranleigh Golf & Leisure Club

What we say

The Cranleigh Golf & Leisure Club is now seeing the benefits of a five-year investment and improvements programme to the course and supporting facilities. It has been described as 'an outstanding parkland golf course which sits easily in its picturesque landscape'. The many water features on the course combine with the fairways and white sand bunkers to ensure that Cranleigh is not a soft touch.

I phoned the golf club on the Thursday planning to play on the Saturday afternoon, stating I had 2-fore-1 vouchers.  I was informed that a couple of years ago the club changed to members only and they no longer accept them, apart from by members guests. I informed the helpful assistant that they still appeared on this website as accepting the vouchers (purely for his information). Upon finding out we were planning to play in the afternoon he said they werent particularly busy, said he would check the tee booking and let me know I we could have a tee time. The gentleman then left me an answerphone message confirming we had a 2-ball at 12.50 paying members guest rate of £25 which I thought was a brilliant offer. Upon turning up the course and attempting to pay, a slightly less welcoming gentleman on the golf reception asked if either of us were members. I explained the situation and the conversation I had with his colleague, (even giving him the name of his colleague from the answer phone message I still had on my phone), to which he informed us it was a members club and non members aren't allowed to play unacompanied. The gentleman (in a tone suggesting we were in the wrong) said as we were there they wouldnt stop us playing but re-affirmed it was a members only course, speaking to us in a way which we were almost second class citizens. Lovely course, challenging and thought requiring holes, well placed and maintained bunkers, greens challengng and in good condition. Fantastic facilities at the club, just left with a bitter taste from the way were treated and spoken to on arrival.
