Wentworth Golf Club – East Course

Last Updated:

What we say

Many prefer it to the West. A great design. More playable than the West with one hole of genius in the 462-yard par-4 11th. It does not require length to protect it, relying on subtlety.

The East Course is the hidden gem of Wentworth and though it lacks superstar neighbour the West course’s intimidation factor, it’s a class act in its own right. It is shorter with a cluster of shortish par 4s so mid to high handicppers will not only find it more manageable but almost certainly more enjoyable too. Even when we visited, in late winter, the fairways were superb, though a few greens were a bit on the soggy side.

The East course was built in 1924, the West following two years later. Harry Colt, also the guiding hand behind Sunningdale New, designed them both. But the East hasn't always been in the shadows of the West: in 1926 a British team of professionals took on their counterparrts from America in what proved a forerunner for something called the Ryder Cup, while further distinction followed when the first women's Curtis Cup was played over the East in 1932.

very hard course but awesome... great design and the greens are fast... stupidly expensive but a course that is worth playing as a one off- hust aso you cans ay you have played it

I have always wanted to play this course as we've all seen it so much on TV. The place itself is as impressive and imposing as you would expect and very welcoming (not as exclusive as you would fear). It is always in great nick but if you took away the fact that it has so much TV time you would perhaps be disappointed for the cash you pay! The East course is just as good but cheaper but you do get a few more golfers on it because of that. Great experience overall but if it's great golf you want try one of the other courses. You pay through the nose for the experience of the West.

First thing first. This is not the most interesting course I've played. There are quite a few better for that. However....the quality of the course, Greens, Tee's etc is outstanding. I was prepared for the speed of the Greens, but not the breaks. What looked like a 6in turn ended up 4ft from the cup!! The clubhouse is magical, and the people working there were polite and pleasent. However just being there, where great players have trodden is superb. A real treat.
