Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club

What we say

Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club isn’t a long golf course but don’t think for one minute that this par 68 is a piece of cake, because it isn’t. There’s no shortage of demanding holes and although the golf course is 700ft above sea level and offers some breathtaking vistas, it is open and exposed to the elements so plays like a links golf course.

Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club celebrated it's Golden Jubilee in 1939 having been started by a small band of enthusiasts in the autumn of 1889.

Nowadays the golf course, at just under 6,000 yards, may be termed "short", but any scratch player who returns a net 68 should be well pleased with himself and is nindeed a rare breed. In fact the challenge of this exciting 18 hole layout can be appreciated from the fact that the golf course record still stands at 63, held by the late Tim Smith.

Stay & Play: The Prince of Wales Hotel is nearby on the A38 and there's also Hunters Hall on the Tetby Road about 4 miles away.

Worth a visit, up on the Cotswold escarpment. Not a long course but well defended by wind when it blows and it did on the day we played there. Very good value on a county card @£18. Only blot was bar-man who couldn't add up (over charged me twice) and had no sense of humour! No hesitation to play here again.

A short course, only 1 par 5, but dont let that deter you. It is a hill top course, so when the wind blows it will play as long as many links courses. Based on common land, that is a natural feel to it. The greens and tees are always in good condition, but greens tend to be slower than other course around. Recommended to anyone, as great value for money, and a pleasure to play.

The golf is challenging, but the views need to be seen.
