What we say

Hazlemere Golf Club is the Club where Luke Donald learnt his golf. Set in 104 acres of the Chiltern Hills in South Buckinghamshire and designated an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this undulating parkland golf course offers an outstanding challenge to golfers of all abilities.

The Terry Murray-designed golf course was opened in 1982 and was purchased by its members in 2000. A feature of the golf course, which has five par 3s and three par 5s, is the number of holes protected by mature trees or water. Correct shot selection and good course management are therefore essential.

A well kept course, we played it during a cold snap but only one temporary green (which is in the lee of a hill at the bottom of a valley). Good use of the contours of the valley leading to what looks like easy par 4s downhill, but with well protected greens can still cause problems for all handicaps. I particularly enjoyed the par 5 2nd, rounding along the side of the valley, with a very undulating green to finish it off, also the par 3 11th, a precise tee shot is required as the green is protected by a tree short left and a bunker to the right, then to a green with 2 tiers, left and right not front and back as is normal. We were well received by pro and clubhouse staff and found the members talkative and polite throughout.
