This is a tough course to review. It's hard to be critical of Barkway Park but then again it's not particularly easy to find things to rave about. Having played the course as a teenager the year it opened I was a little sad to see that over 14 years on it hasn't really developed. Trees planted when the course was created seem to have grown very little, if at all and the course still has a new feel to it. The course is long, the front nine seems particularly long although this may just be due to the prevailing wind. There are some very good holes, some average holes and some may some a few poor holes but sadly no great holes. The course is always in okay condition all year round ,some may argue that it's actually better in winter. It's a good long walk and the wind will put some colour in your cheeks. After 18 holes you'll know you've played a round of golf that's for sure, especially if your carrying any extra timber. The welcome is good, speed of play is sensible and the course and associated facillities are all acceptable. You'll probably walk off the course content, but not massively keen to return. Having said that you probably will return as it's friendly and good value for money. One to play and decide for yourself I'd say.
