The Hertfordshire Golf & Country Club

What we say

An all-round decent golfing facility highlighted by the finest stretch of finishing holes you’re ever likely to play. In fact we’d go as far as to say that The Herts is worth playing for the last six holes alone. Talk about six of the best with the par 5 penultimate hole being an absolute corker – it calls for a long drive, a lay-up and an approach over a lake. On the other hand, some of the greens weren’t in the best of nick while the fairways on the front nine were patchy.

The Hertfordshire opened as recently as 1995 but has matured quickly into a fine parkland golf course ably supported with complete leisure facilities, all housed in an historic setting.

The par 70 golf course pays homage to its historic background - The Hertfordshire's clubhouse is located in a stunning Grade II listed mansion while the golf course runs through ancient grounds once owned by The Knights Templar - by utilising existing lakes and trees to provide a stern challenge.

Stay & Play: The Cheshunt Marriott hotel is about two miles away.

  • 3.5 out of 5 The Hertfordshire Golf Club

The Hertfordshire Golf Club was designed by Jack Nicklaus II and is spread over 6388 yards of beautiful Hertfordshire countryside. The course gives an array of challenging holes with plenty of natural hazards to watch out for, especially on the back 9. I think that the hole you will remember best would be the par-3 15th where a demanding tee shot is required onto a tiered green surrounded by water. I also thought that the facilities were excellent. With its huge driving range, putting and chipping greens and gymnasium along with a pool, its facilities are faultless. The really only weak point about the course is that for golfers who struggle around the course, there is a rather long walk from the 9th hole to the 10th. Overall it was a fine days golf, supported by a lovely lunch in the grade II listed Mansion Clubhouse with views across the course.

Nice tidy course the 2nd nine far more interesting. Green fees on the high side - perhaps better value elsewhere. Would definately go back.
