Spey Valley Championship Golf Course

What we say

Spey Valley is in the foothills of Britain’s sixth highest mountain and also tends to be overshadowed by those other extraordinary Highlands such as Royal Dornoch and Nairn. But if Dornoch and Nairn are considered among Scotland’s leading links then Spey Valley has surely got to be one of the country’s leading and most scenic inland layouts. In fact it is a worthy winner of the ‘Most Picturesque Course in the UK’ title.

When TG interviewed Dave Thomas at his Marbella home a few years back one of the first things he asked was if we had played his Spey Valley. At the time, we hadn’t and he insisted “you must”. He was right. It is a masterpiece, overlooked by the Cairngorms, with the river Spey running through. The venue was further enhanced this summer by a new £1m clubhouse.

The Spey Valley Championship Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 course which meanders through ancient Caledonian pine forests and along the banks of the sparkling River Spey.

The 18-hole par 72 golf course is really 4 golf courses in one. Meandering through the trees along the banks of the sparkling River Spey, it covers 7,153 yards of heathland, woodland, links and inland terrain.

Signature hole is the 5th, officially the longest hole in Scotland at 635 yards (par 5). Following the course, you’ll be treated to a walk amongst the wildlife, with sightings of deer, red squirrels and osprey a common occurrence.

The Spey Valley Golf Course construction was opened for play in 2006 and provides the most spectacular 360 views of the highland Mountains and Forests you could imagine!

Some of our holes are famous for their outstanding natural beauty; our 5th hole boasts the longest hole in Scotland (at 635 yards) and our 6th spans a lake which has been adopted as a nesting site by a bird colony. When you reach the 12th at the start of the home stretch, Spey Valley opens up before you like a film set

  • 5 out of 5 Stunning!!

Views of mountains topped with snow even in June only add to the paoramic beauty of the course. A tricky layout and very slick greens only add to the adventure, throw in the wind and the odd shower and you have all the makings of "Four Seasons in One Day". Played it in the first week of June without much growth of grass but still the fairways became more and more lush as the round developed. With most pins placed very close to the front of very large greens, and with some develishly wicked slopes, putting certainly concentrated the mind. Staff very welcoming - will definitely return and take my chance with the weather!!
