Woll Golf Course

What we say

A splendid, gently rolling parkland which is always in fine nick.

Woll offers a testing and very enjoyable round over 18 holes of outstanding natural beauty. The par 70 parkland golf course follows the gentle contours of the Ale valley and is surrounded by mature trees.

The Woll burn comes into play on a number of holes as do the ponds at the aptly named Pond hole and Dipper Haugh.

Situated on the natural valley bottom the sub soil is sand and gravel ensuring the golf course drains very well and is playable all year round.

  • 4 out of 5 Friendly and very playable - a joyful experience

    By Laurie

From the initial booking through to a post round bar drink and meal all felt comfortable and welcoming. The course is varied and for a new course well managed in all areas - the greens are fair and true. I would bring my society for a stay and play break without hesitation.

  • 4 out of 5 Would love to come back

I played this course last week, excellent course tucked away in the borders. Every hole is different and defined beautifully. The only negative area I would comment on would be the speed of the greens, unbelievably slow!! I played when it was damp and would love to come back one day and play again to see if this was the conditions or the greens themselves. Greens with decent speed would make this a stern test of golf.

  • 4 out of 5 Amazing change 2015

    By Hogan

We played the course 2 years ago and there were some problems with greens. There has obviously been a great deal of work done as the whole course has been transformed! There are 6 new greens and other changes which have changed the look of the course. Also the condition of the whole course is superb! We were really impressed and will definitely be back!!! • 5 out of 5 Best Course we played in the Borders

    By Pat

This was the best course we played in the Borders! and one of the other courses was the Roxburghe. Played the course 3 years ago but they have redeveloped it and it was unrecognisable this year. They must have spent a fortune on new greens, ponds and bunkers and its been worth it. We were blown away! The staff were really friendly and the food was good so we will be back.

  • 2.5 out of 5 shame about the greens

    By par3golfer

Warm welcome. Asked if we were quoted a price when booking...never been asked that before!! Clubhouse and bar/restaurant facilities are okay. Staff friendly and approachable.Course is fine. Not the best or most exciting but a reasonably enjoyable experience from tee to edge of green. Then the problems start. Out of the eighteen around a third had some grass on them but only in some areas. The others were like the browns that used to be found on desert courses. Little or no grass and with a strange brown surface along with a very peculiar smell. To be fair we were told before we started that there had been some problems with the greens but we did not expect it to be as we found. On completion of our round we spoke to the staff and were offered a discount of 50% off our next round. This we thought was fair but unfortunately of no use to us as we were only in the area for the May holiday weekend and would not be back so we were allowed to use this discount in the bar/restaurant towards food and drink. In all a nice little course with some nice holes let down by the state of the greens.Would I return? Possibly but only if the greens are in better order.

  • 3.5 out of 5 A pleasant course to play

Nice course, not as testing as some. Some of the greens werent as good as I expected. Quiet surroundings, food was brilliant as was the the friendly staff in the golf club! Would go back though.

Good golf challenge, views not as spectacular as other border golf clubs but some excellent holes on the way out, staff friendly and food excellent
