Gower Golf Club

What we say

The Donald Steel-designed Gower Golf Club is set in 150 acres of rolling countryside
on the fringe of the Gower Peninsular, Britain’s first designated area of outstanding
natural beauty. The golf course is a testament to Steel's philosophy of “a preference
for the natural, traditional look" he's ensured it is part of its surroundings, and utilised every feature in the landscape.

Have played this course before but this was first time in the summer. Condition of the fairways was excellent and the tees were equally well cared for. The layout was very challenging though as some of the fairways were cut ridiculously narrow and although the first cut of rough being 3-4inches in places was not an issue, having only 23 yards of it before you get into the 10 inches of thick grass was taking it a little further than "challenging". The greens were also a bit of an odd one on the day - they looked very weel kept and closely mown from distance but when you got to them they felt springy as if the grass was actually quite thick but rolled flat. This meant you had to give putts a little extra to get them rolling but then they would not stop!!. i would say that if this is how it is normally set up in the summer that it would be a course that would appeal to single figure handicappers only.

There are lovely views on the first couple of holes on this course. However, as this course is built on past farmland the drainage is not the best around thus resulting in damp fairways on some holes. The course is a fairly challenge but a lack of sand in some bunkers may be one of the only downsides of this lovely course.
