Verdict: This is one cool bit of kit. It has multiple features, is easy to navigate and even speaks to you if you wish. The fact it’s touch screen means you don’t have to negotiate tiny buttons to switch functions. I didn’t once need to manually switch holes – it did that for me – and I liked being able to move the flag location on the dynamic green view. I tested it at Brocket Hall Golf Club and unfortunately, it took a good 10 minutes to recognise the course on the first tee, but it worked fine by the time I reached where my tee shot finished. The watch strap is quite chunky so after a few holes I clipped it to my belt and hardly noticed it was there.

As well as a host of cool features, Golf Buddy’s new VT3 can be worn in five different ways depending on your preference – on the wrist, attached to a free retractable cord, or clipped to a hat, belt or shirt pocket. This feature-packed GPS rangefinder combines powerful audio and TouchSwipe screen functionality to deliver supremely accurate distances quickly and easily.

An 1¼-inch-wide LCD display shows distances to the front, middle and back of the green on more than 36,000 courses worldwide. Golfers can position the pin precisely on any point on the green using the touch screen and view the distances from the golfer’s angle of approach rather than from the centre of the fairway. There’s also a round scoring option, shot distance measurement and a digital date and clock display. Additionally, there’s an 11-hour rechargeable lithium battery, enough for two full rounds on a single charge.
