The Footjoy Tour Pro/SL is one of the most popular golf shoes in the world and the spikeless groundbreaker has been updated for 2022.

At first glance it looks like the kind of shoe Walter Hagen might have worn during the late 20s and it is apt, that a company that was formed in 1857, should pay tribute to period that was so important in terms of the growth of golf.

Another uber-modern FootJoy golf shoe that looks pretty flimsy but that trainer-look belies an interior and sole with plenty of strength. It also embraces the BOA lacing system (‘Wrapid’) but it has been upgraded to reduce pressure on the top of the foot.

FootJoy’s cheapest model still has plenty to offer and fits neatly into its own niche. It looks contemporary but not too modern; it’s lightweight but not too light and comfort wise compares with anything FJ has produced so far.

Of course it’s not for everyone. The synthetic upper is nicely moulded but does look like more of a budget golf shoe. However the traction created by the spikes will certainly do the job for most players.

What really stands out is the extra depth on the heel which has been created to accommodate the thicker FitBed support system. That really will take the sting out of potential heel impact issues and overall, will alleviate foot fatigue.

New golf products rarely induce a little ‘wow’ under your breath – we’ve seen it all right! – but the Footjoy Tour Alpha certainly managed that.

The moulded 3D Heel counter is designed to lock the heel in place during your swing and anchors a FTF dual Durometer midsole that incorporates a soft-core midfoot piece. The Ortholites Impressions Fitbed adds the comfort to the stability which is completed with nine highly-prominent spikes.
