What we say...

Ping’s autumn/winter 2018 collection contains three Primaloft insulating jackets, all of which have millions of tiny air pockets to trap body heat in cold conditions.

And because Primaloft insulation is hydro-phobic it hates water, which means you get a permanent water resistance. Ping say it means even if it’s wet outside you stay warm, and thanks to a breathable outer, excess body heat and moisture can escape keeping you comfortable no matter what the conditions. The trick is choosing the best jacket for you and that’s where we come in.

Review: Ping Norse Primaloft Jacket – £140

Ping Norse Primaloft Jacket

Primaloft Silver Insulation delivers a lightweight, high-performance thermal insulation with water-resistant technology, resulting in exceptional warmth, even when wet. Combine this with a breathable, stretch and water resistant outer fabric means you have a jacket offering optimum performance for the colder months.

  • Fully insulated with Primaloft Silver Insulation Active
  • Superior warmth without weight
  • Stretch fabric throughout to provide maximum freedom of movement
  • Highly breathable
  • Water resistant
  • Windproof
  • Quilted front design
  • Two front pockets

Verdict:

A cracking full insulation jacket, that will keep you warm when temperatures take a tumble. We’ve found the Primaloft insulation is very capable of keeping out a shower too, but because the Norse doesn’t have taped seams it can’t be sold as being waterproof. A good mid-cut means it’s nicely fitted, without being restricting. A fair price for what is a very high performance winter jacket. For us an excellent choice for those playing over the cold winter months in the UK, probably best worn over a polo shirt, to replace a sweater.

Review: Ping Norse Primaloft Zoned Jacket – £120

Ping Norse Primaloft Zoned Jacket

A new, eye-catching Norse Primaloft Zoned Jacket which has been engineered for core warmth and wind protection, ensuring golfers stay warm and comfortable on the course through the changing seasons.

Zoned Primaloft Silver Active Insulation to the upper front and back combines with a lightweight, stretch outer fabric to ensure core warmth and complete freedom of movement throughout the swing. Highly breathable and a water-resistant finish make this the ultimate hybrid golf jacket.

  • Insulated with Primaloft Silver Insulation Active
  • Stretch outer fabric
  • Core warmth without bulk
  • Highly breathable
  • Double-ended zip design
  • Windproof and water resistant
  • Lightweight

Verdict:

In our opinion the most versatile Norse jacket. We love how the zoned jacket comes into it’s own, not just on windy days but when it’s cool too. The lightweight outer is perfect as an extra layer and because it’s so thin you can easily wear a sweater beneath it. We’re big fans of full zipped jackets as they’re easy to get on and off and the neat gathered cuffs are a world away from the cumbersome wrist adjusters from just a few years ago. A brilliant hybrid jacket which rolls a sweater and wind cheater into the same garment.

Review: Ping Norse Primaloft Fleece £100

Ping Norse Primaloft Fleece

Utilising a new fabric technology for golf apparel, the Norse Primaloft Fleece is engineered from the recently introduced Primaloft Performance Fabric Energy Series. Designed specially to move and retain shape throughout the golf swing, the fleece delivers exceptional comfort and performance in a mid-layer.

A luxurious, soft fleece fabric in a classic, timeless design ensures excellent warmth without weight, while a highly breathable, four-way stretch fabric provides optimum freedom of movement, endlessly retaining its shape, time-after-time.

  • High-performance fleece
  • Primaloft Performance Fabric Energy Series
  • Four-way stretch for maximum freedom of movement
  • Engineered for exceptional comfort and performance
  • Superior warmth without bulk
  • Contrast tape detailing at shoulders and a heat-welded front hem for a clean, modern finish
  • Two front pockets

Verdict:

It wasn’t that long ago lambswool sweaters were the go to garment for golf in cool conditions, but mid and outer-layers have come a long way since then, and we love how a modern fleece like the Norse doesn’t sag and smell after getting damp. Like the other Norse jackets the tailored fit is spot on for golf and we reckon this Norse fleece and the Zoned Jacket might just be the ultimate combination for winter golf (along with a full on waterproof suit if you insist on playing in the wet) in the UK.
