Adams New Idea

The Hybrids Test 2014: Adams New Idea

Cost: £129

Tech: A refined slot design increases ball speeds, creates higher launch and additional distance on off-centre shots.

What we said… James Ridyard: “More of a closed face than the Pro. More of a wood design than a hybrid, contrast between top and face works. Felt like a good swing weight, heavy. Slight curve to the leading edge works from rough and tight lies.” Joel Tadman: “Loads of forgiveness, solid feel but not overly workable. Slot on top appears more subtle on a larger head.” Peter Ward: “One of my straightest clubs, found it difficult to curve. Much more appealing to hit than my long irons.” Ross Nichols: “I don’t like the look of the slot, Easy to align. Like the feel of the tacky grip.”

Pros: Confidence-inspiring look and feel.

Cons: Not overly versatile or workable.
