Adams Pro/Pro Mini

The Hybrids Test 2014: Adams Pro/Pro Mini - GOLD AWARD

Cost: £170

Tech: Featuring a high MOI upside-down head shape, the Pro Hybrid makes consistent contact easier for golfers of all skill levels. “Velocity Slots” on the crown and “Cut-Thru Slots” on the sole combine with an ultra-thin face to add forgiveness and ball speed.

What we said... James Ridyard: “The Pro Mini has a really compact head, but you get a lot of length from heel to toe. I’m not convinced by the look of the slot, but I like the darker matt finish. Minimal offset is good for better players, as is the deep face. It felt very solid, a touch heavier than others, which I like, with lots of feedback on where you strike it. It was surprisingly forgiving for such a small head. The Mini spins less than the standard Pro.” Joel Tadman: “The Pro models have a firmer, clickier sound and feel than other top performers but it went a long way for something so small. The Mini was easy to shape both ways and certainly looks like a better player hybrid. The slot on top isn’t easy on the eye but seemed to work. The front edge is very flat, making it easy to strike from the mat.” Peter Ward: “The Pro felt lovely when I caught it. You knew about the poor strikes, but I didn’t hit many. The grip felt thin but I enjoyed the shape and matt finish. The leading edge has more curve to it than the Mini, which enhanced its versatility.” Ross Nichols: “The slot on top is off-putting at first but thoughts of it soon disappear after you sweep a few away with ease. Even though it’s relatively small it went well out of heel and toe.”

Pros: Performance in a small package. Consistently long with a strong flight.

Cons: Slot on top isn’t nice to look at.
