Wilson Staff D-100

The Hybrids Test 2014: Wilson Staff D-100

Cost: £119

Tech: Easy-to-swing lightweight design and correct mass properties deliver ideal launch angles and maximum distance.

What we said… James Ridyard: “High quality shaft offers a balanced feel. Off-centre hits didn’t travel as far as I like. Came out of the rough well but struggled to keep the flight down off the tee.” Joel Tadman: “Found it really easy to strike from a variety of lies. Mid trajectory and solid feel. Not the longest but would feel confident hitting a tight fairway.” Peter Ward: “The triangular shape puts plenty of meat behind the ball, which I like. Soft but explosive feel at impact, difficult to hit off line.” Ross Nichols: “Felt hot. Got a strong trajectory once I adjusted to what felt like an upright lie angle.”

Pros: Powerful feel. Not much to dislike.

Cons: Glossy finish may create glare.
