Adams XTD Forged

Irons Test 2014: Adams XTD Forged

Cost: £699 steel

Tech: A multi-piece forging with the category’s first-ever Cut-Thru Slot. A floating face and hollow design adds forgiveness.

What we said… JR: “It feels very light, which didn’t help me swing it faster. The heads are compact, especially in the short irons and the long irons are considerably bigger with more offset. Felt like the ball came off fast, the flight was high and the sound a touch clicky but I like the overall look. It’s got a slightly rounded shape towards the toe and a high-quality KBS Tour C-Taper shaft.” JT: “The Iomic grip is quite tacky but not overly so. Noticed the light feel and clicky sound but is one of the best looking irons on test for me.”

Pros: Balls come off fast and consistently so.

Cons: Lacks that wow factor.
