Irons Test 2014: Aston Martin Maraging Face
Cost: £799.99 steel £999.99 graphite
Tech: Maraging steel is durable yet thinner than cast stainless steel or forged steel, that creates a high repulsion face with very high ball speeds. Project X shafts as standard.
What we said... James Ridyard: “I like the black chrome finish and the shape is good for a larger head. The lighter face area frames the ball well. Project X shaft adds value.” Joel Tadman: “I don’t mind the dark look, very square front edge makes it easy to align. Can’t fault the shape and distance was long and consistent.” Gee Gioia: “Black shiny finish is unusual, but I like the low offset. Strong flight when I flushed it.” Adam Holdgate: “Felt hot but soft. Dark finish not to my taste but difficult to curve off line.”
Pros: Balanced shape offering power and forgiveness, sleek design.
Cons: Black chrome finish will split opinion.
