Irons Test 2014: John Letters Master Model
Cost: £599 steel
Tech: Available in black or satin finish, these irons are the finest Letters have created; 8620 stainless steel ensures ultimate feel.
What we said... JR: “Looks a little too big to be a better-player club; significant offset, clean, slick design on the back. A lot of weight low down in the head yet was pretty low launching, felt like it was long, fairly hot off the face. Prefer the black finish, it’s a little different and contrasts with ball better.” JT: “I really like the shape, has the perfect combination of top line and offset, maybe a touch too much of the latter, prefer satin to dark. Shaft very stable and hot off the face, held line well on mishits.”
Pros: Soft feel, simple look and high-spec shaft all real pluses.
Cons: Good players may want less offset and more workability.
