Irons Test 2014: Nike VR Pro Combo Forged
Cost: £849 steel
Tech: A polymer-filled pocket cavity in the 3-6-irons produces a high, strong trajectory, and a split cavity in the 7-PW offers stability and precision with uncompromising feel.
What we said... JR: “Mid-size head but with a thin top line. Very nice shape: straight leading edge and little offset. I like the brushed finish and the extra forgiveness in the long irons is a bonus as it still has the same look. You wouldn’t know the cavity is there looking down at address. The set felt soft and it was easy to change the trajectory.” JT: “It looks like a better player’s club with extra forgiveness in the long irons which launch quite high but retain the slim shape. Hard-ish feel.”
Pros: Forgiving despite compact size. Exceptional distance control.
Cons: Not as long as most others.
