What we say...

Callaway’s top of the range model is designed to allow golfers at all levels to improve their driving. Again, like the FT-5 our pro hit it well and it stood up to most drivers on test but it didn’t receive overwhelming praise from our testers and this keeps it back in the pack. If you fancy the look of it then get fitted for head bias, loft and shaft.

Pro Verdict: Nice looking driver which despite good stats did not stand out for me. Ball flight was a little higher than I’d like; may suit a low hitter.

Tester Comments: “Looks great but another noisy striker”… “Feels very light and incredibly easy to swing”… “Decent distance and accuracy but not the most forgiving I tried”.

The Callaway FT-i Driver is a real looker of a driver, but was also designed to help all golfers at all levels improve their driving abilities.

The Callaway FT-9 Drivers feature the latest 'Hyperbolic Face Technology'. This strategically shapes the face thickness in the key areas to create a much larger effective hitting area, making it extremely forgiving.

'Fusion Technology' moves weight more towards the perimeter of the club head to create a lower centre of gravity to increase stability on off centre strikes.

By combining a Carbon Composite body and state of the art Titanium face, Callaway have reduced the overall weight to give a higher launch and less spin for greater distances. Using this unique combination of materials has allowed Callaway Golf's designers to create a club that looks stunning, whilst delivering simply scintillating performance!

Two centre of gravity locations are available to choose from. The draw version promotes a draw ball flight, helping to reduce a slice/fade, whilst the neutral versions allows maximum workability. The space-age visual external weighting system precisely positions the centre of gravity to create the desired shot shape. Fitted as standard with the highly rated Fujikura ZCOM graphite shaft which is lightweight and stable to increase distance and control.

Callaway Drivers User Reviews

  • 5 out of 5 Its hip to be square.

Fantastic Driver, even if it looks ugly, the results are deeply satisfying. Have been hitting longer, straighter. As the sweet spot is effectively stretched over the face, bad shots are greatly reduced for the high handicapper. Has a very satisfying noise, much akin to a gun going off. So much so that people have been moving away from me on the driving range!

Having recently changed from an FT5 which was pretty good anyway I have been totally amazed by the distance and control I am achieving with the latest low cg version of this driver. No doubt it has helped to be fitted at Callaway's Performance Centre to get the optimum launch angle, trajectory and spin rate so I won't bore you with the spec of my club as this wil be irrelevant to you unless you have exactly the same swing speed etc as me. However the gains are significant and I am can really launch into the ball with confidence. It is a bit like having four wheel drive, ABS, traction control, airbags and radar. Do not buy one if you are likely to be playing against me. I love having the upper hand.
