Better Player Drivers Test Nov 2012 – Key comments

JR: This was certainly suited to a golfer with a higher swing speed, as the ball flight was lower than many others on Test.
DW: The head seemed more workable than some, suiting players looking to shape shots.
CS: I wasn’t immediately convinced by the shape of the head at address, but the results were impressive. The ball came off the face well.
MR: This was excellent, sweet as a nut in fact. It felt really good out of the middle, but also when it wasn’t quite out of the middle.

Test

If Callaway were holding back from doing an adjustable driver because they wanted to get it “just so” then it’s been well worth the wait. The company has produced a club that will suit all levels of golfers – it’s already used widely on Tour by the likes of Alvaro Quiros (who knows a thing or two about hitting it a country mile) and we think it’s going to be a firm favourite with happy hackers up and down the country too.

The club boasts a combination of Callaway’s OptiFit technology and Forged Composite which is lighter and stronger than titanium. The club has been designed to reduce drag on the downswing by 27% (compared to the previous RAZR Hawk) and the distances recorded by our testers were impressive, scoring top marks. Jon eked out 258 yards while Dave C was just shy of 275 yards on average and it also scored maximum numbers in dispersion too – the only club on test to complete this double. But the maximum scores tell a fraction of the story. Ian, for one, raved about the looks of the RAZR Fit and also noted exceptional feel. This was also ridiculously forgiving – it was very hard to mishit this golf club and Pro James agreed this would be an exceptional product for a game-improver as well as better player. And talking of better players, James V was adamant it oozed class and you could tell it was a premium golf club. That brings us on to another thing, the price. It isn’t cheap – but it is a brilliant piece of engineering that will enhance your golfi ng life.

Old vs New Driver Review: Rogue vs XR 16 vs X Hot vs RAZR Fit

Old vs New Callaway drivers

The Callaway RAZR Fit Driver is Callaway’s first foray into driver adjustability and it's an impressive one. The OptiFit system allows easy adjustment of the face to open, closed or square. Adjustable weights for the heel and toe help promote a draw or fade, while Forged Composite material means the CG can be positioned lower for more forgiveness. Streamlined Surface Technology improves aerodynamics.
