Technology

Internal BiO Cells – a honeycomb pattern on the inside of the head – removes weight from the crown and positions it low and back in the head to deliver a lower CG and higher MOI.
BiO Cell pockets move weight away from the face to the back of the head for more forgiveness. MyFly adjustable loft offers eight settings.

Looks

One big change from last year’s Amp Cell is the crown design. There’s now a crescent shape along the back with a light hexagonal pattern. It’s a welcome addition to the bold colours offered and I like how Cobra have thought about the traditionalist and created a black version.

Feel/sound

Still loud, but more less so than the head-turning Amp Cell. Balls feel hard off the face, but are quick to fly off it.

Performance

After our big drivers test last year, some players with faster swings said the Amp Cell launched too high with too much spin. Cobra seems to have sorted this. The AMP Cell launched around the 14 degree mark, while the BiO launched lower at around 12-13°. This gave me an extra 12 yards of carry thanks to bringing the spin down by up to 500rpm over last year’s driver, an impressive increase in performance.

The BiO CELL driver features a 460cc head and 0.5 inch longer shaft than the more compact, lower-spinning BiO CELL+  which is 440cc and aimed at better players.

Comes in five colours, including black, compared with four options for the AMP CELL range, and has two additional loft settings via Cobra MyFly adjustable loft technology, bringing the total number to eight. Longer than the AMP Cell drivers thanks to its 50 per cent lower centre of gravity (CG), which makes the new model launch an average of 1.2 degrees higher than AMP Cell with about 300rpm less spin.

  • 5 out of 5 Magic! Exactly what I needed

    By Rick Eagle

As I'm a fairly average 22 handicapper, it's not worth being 'fitted' for a driver, according to some. NONSENSE! Proof of the pudding etc. went to a retailer offering chargeable fitting, the price refunded against any purchase. PGA Pro correctly identified my needs (lower trajectory and spin for more roll-out, with an ultra-forgiving head design). Tried 7 or 8 drivers (plus my old one) and this was the choice. On the course, exactly what I was looking for; hitting fairways, increased length due to greater carry and roll. Great price too, now that newer models have come along, and with the fitting fee deducted I've got a genuine bargain.

  • 5 out of 5 Long and straight

    By Bobbo

Using a stiff shaft set at 10.5 draw . ...Longer and straighter than my Ping Anser. Given me confidence to use driver on some tighter fairways where I have been using a 3 wood....taken 3 shots off my round. Highly recommended.

  • 5 out of 5 Great driver, effortless extra distance

    By John Newell

Replaced a Callaway FT9 with this driver after just 15 minutes of comparative testing. An extra 25mph in ball speed off the face has resulted in 20-25 yds extra carry and 30-35 extra distance. Haven't played around with the MyFly settings yet to see if I can squeeze a bit more out of it but thrilled with the extra distance so far and i'm hitting more than my average number of fairways as well. Win win. Lovin it!
