2013 Drivers Test

Even on the higher lofts, testers commented how little loft was visible at address. Chris felt his 10.5˚ looked more like an 8.5˚, which reduced his confidence. Testers enjoyed the classic head shape, but the lack of stand-out features reduced shelf appeal in Graeme’s opinion. James observed how the face sat closed, which would benefit slicers.

First Look Test

The titanium won’t become brittle – losing you performance – for up to five years. The face does sit shut at address and looks less lofted than the number suggests.

Manufactured from 15-3-3-3 titanium, one of the finest available, and features a custom UST Mamiya shaft and grip designed specifically for the TR47 to minimise torque, optimise the ball flight and harness the powerful head design.

For the first time, John Letters is using high-grade titanium in its driver. The material they’ve chosen is naturally high in elasticity; it’s designed to be strong but to bend and flex like an aeroplane’s wings.

When we tested the pre-launch version of the club earlier this year, it was well-liked for its classic look and closed face, which would benefit serial slicers of the ball. Each driver has a polished head design offering a sleek and distraction-free look at address. A four-piece cup face enhances distance. It comes as standard with a UST Mamiya V2 graphite shaft.

John Letters Drivers User Reviews

  • 5 out of 5 John Letters TR47 Driver

    By Ian Wallace

I have to agree this is a great Driver, the best I have had. It may not be as expensive as most off the better drivers but I think it is just as good. I use a 15 degree one and I think it is great and goes nice and streight with a great hight to my drives. I love this club It's so easy to use.

  • 4 out of 5 Longer and more consistent than my Ping Anser.

    By Philsbmw

I was hitting my Ping Anser (10.5 deg, reg shaft) at the range when the pro came out with the TR47 & asked if I'd like to try it, Thought, what the hell I'll give it a go..... WOW this thing was sending range balls straighter & further than my own driver ever could, averaging at 240 carry & straight, even miss hits were over 220 with only a 10 yard dispersion, I had a couple of real golf balls in my bag (Titleist NXTs) & hit these to get a real feel off the driver & hit over 255 carry ! I have a h/cap of 18 so not great & suffer the normal amateur woes but the TR47 is probably the best driver I've used & yes, I bought it. Just because it's not one of the big name brands don't overlook it.
