Technology
TaylorMade’s fastest, most aerodynamic driver ever has a rounded toe, a larger and deeper Speed Pocket, a raised centre crown and a hosel fin designed to reduce aerodynamic drag.

Looks
Very loud with big, bright graphics on the sole and shaft that catch your eye. Certainly has plenty of shelf appeal yet maintains a traditional head outline at set up.

Feel/Sound
Lives up to the Burner name with a powerful feel and quite a loud sound. Easy to align due to the white and black contrast. It also feels light and long in the shaft, it‘s a quarter-inch longer than the R15, which for many will lead to increased club speed.

Forgiveness
Performed well from different strike points on the face. No adjustability on offer here so catering for your misses or changing the flight isn’t as easy as other models.

Performance
This driver is built for speed and for most it will deliver on its promise – it’s truly a ‘grip it and rip it’ driver. A longer and lighter stock shaft with a more aerodynamic head should help the majority of golfers increase their club speed. For fast swingers, the stock stiff may fly too high and create too much spin so look out for the heavier TP option to bring both of these parameters down. No adjustability, but with the right loft the performance is likely to be as good as any at this price point. With the added appeal of the vibrant cosmetics, you’ll likely see a lot of these on the tee in 2015.

Details: RRP £269 (9.5º, 10.5º, 12º, HL).

James Ridyard, Professional:
Not a fan of the textured crown. The light feel and long shaft (45.75in) made it feel like it was hard to control. But I hit some of my longest drives on test. Dispersion was a little loose, but still playable.

Joel Tadman, Equipment Editor:
The shaft instantly felt long, which I thought would reduce control, yet this was actually one of my best performers. It went a fraction higher than I’d have liked, but it was still one of my longest clubs on test.

  • 4 out of 5 Long, high and light

    By Keeku

I had trouble with the stock (10.5 degree) Azul regular shaft, so I put in a R11s stiff shaft. I was definitely more able to control the face and club throughout the swing. Club head was still light and the performance was to my higher end. Distance and forgiveness was high even though launch was also. Did not roll out as much as last years Jetspeed. The results were very good and easy to hit once the shaft change but there is not enough feel to know what is going on with the contact and your swing.

Bought this driver at the start of the season, superb. I like the fact that there is no messing with loft or club face adjustment. Hardly missed a fairway and my local course is tight, l habe the 10.5 loft stiff shaft my swing speed is 100-105 flies high and flies long. Into tje wind it's difficult to keep low but with tje ground conditions this year (heavy wet ground ) l feel l get just as much distance from my normal set up. I likeit it a lot.

Attractive at address, sits slightly closed. Increased club speed delivered more yards. It was tricky to control at times and I’d have liked to add a fraction more loft.

The lightweight feel worked for me. My club speed went up by 2mph and I got some of my longest carries on test.
