2012 REVIEW

The driver of choice of Ryo Ishikawa comes in a 450cc head and a smaller 420cc option and although none of our testers was man enough to go on record with the small head, the 450cc model impressed. Pro James and James V were obvious fans of this as, even at 450cc, the head looks compact. Both admired its feel and ability to shape the ball but for pro James it wasn’t as forgiving as some.

It also won praise for looks from our higher handicappers with only Dave R being put off by the smaller address profi le although Jon and Dave C both said it wasn’t one of the most forgiving on test and could not recommend it to inconsistent players even though performance from on-centre hits was fantastic. For power it was up there among the longest, featuring in the top five for Chris, Dave B and Jon and it was no slouch in dispersion either.

But ultimately if you are a less-than-confident driver of the ball it’s likely you’re going to want to look down on something a little bigger than this on the tee.

2011 REVIEW

Yonex’s new EZONE wasn’t to everyone’s taste – Chris loved the smaller head size of the Type 420, but did note that is was probably one for the better player.

Both Darren and Bryan struggled with this though, and this brought the overall mark down even though they were using the larger headed 450 model.

Tour-sensation Ryo Ishikawa was instrumental in designing this new product, and if you're a confident driver of the ball you won't be put off the compact head.

The Yonex EZONE driver range features a Type 450 head for increased power and forgiveness while the Type 420 head allows the better to control the ball without sacrificing distance.

Yonex’ expertise in composite graphite technology has lead to the creation of the new Nanopreme shaft – a high intensity, extremely elastic material that provides increased energy transfer and superior shaft stability.

The Nanopreme shaft enables faster head speeds and reduced shaft deformation for longer, straighter drives.

To ensure that every golfer can find the EZONE driver to suit there swing shape and ball flight requirements Yonex are launching their Rexis Shaft System. There is a choice of 12 Yonex shafts that can be built with either the Type 450 or 420 head.

Yonex Drivers User Reviews

  • 5 out of 5 Easy swinger

    By Gavin Elliot

Unwisely went to a Yonex demo at my club and ended up with a new driver! I am a slow swinging, not very powerfull senior and the Yonex guy took me through a range of shaft and loft options. He fitted me with 12 degree loft and a low kickpoint shaft. The result is a much easier driver to use, requiring little effort and responding well to to a slower than average swing speed. This encourages my natural swing rather than attempting a supersoninc slash. Distance is marginally improved but the main benefit is consistency and ease of use. Also, I can now have a nice controlled draw of the tee when I need it
