What we say...

Callaway Rogue ST fairway woods are ‘Speed Tuned’ to give golfers greater distance and stability.

Callaway have taken inspiration from a simple, personalised performance idea to develop their three new Rogue ST fairway woods – Max, Max D (draw) and LS (low spin), with each ‘Speed Tuned’ to better suit its intended audience.

Callaway say which say ST are their fastest ever fairway woods (a claim we tested in our guide to the best fairway woods) and they have explored how every parameter can be optimised to incrementally nudge the rules of maximum distance and stability to higher levels.

Each model has a more players’ shape than the flatter, pan-shaped Epic fairways. Inside, new Jailbreak ‘bat wings’ in the toe and heel work together with a new C300 maraging steel face to encourage more flex in the centre for improved ball speed and distance.

Let’s take a look at how the three models differ.

The Rogue ST Max will fit a wide range of golfers who are looking for speed, forgiveness, and all-around performance. It’s a mid-launch club with slight draw bias.

The Rogue ST Max features stronger lofts and a slightly more open face angle compared to the Max D model. The Max model has the most robust loft offerings, plus unique progressive shaping on the 3 & 5 woods to enhance MOI.

Today’s Golfer test verdict

Club tests are great for giving insight into which models are longest, fastest and lowest spinning, but when it comes to selecting our top performers we often ask ourselves where would we be happy spending our own money? And in 2022 we’d definitely be considering two models, the Callaway Rogue ST Max and TaylorMade Stealth.

Compared to most the Rogue ST Max is a very low-profile fairway wood (so the face is not very deep), there’s also a wide but naturally appealing shape, so the model builds confidence nicely whilst also being super easy to launch from the turf. And that’s really important as fairway woods can be a real struggle for club golfers in the modern game as the latest golf balls are much lower spin.

Whilst on paper, for our test pro, the Rogue ST LS might appear a more powerful option, for the majority of club players the Rogue ST Max will definitely be the better choice. And we know that because our pro’s data shows the model launching 1.3deg higher, spinning shots 343 RPM more and peaking shots out 4 yds above the LS, all stats that aid keeping shots in the air for longer at more reasonable speeds. Thanks to the matt black crown and really appealing head shape we’d happily spend our dosh on Rogue ST Max fairways this year.

Lofts 16º, 19º, 22º | Lie 58º-59º | Left hand options? Yes – 15º and 18º | Stock shaft Project X Cypher 40g (WMS), 50g (Light); Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 60g (Regular, Stiff), 70g (Stiff) | Stock grip Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 (50g)

The Rogue ST Max D is for the player who needs more draw bias in their fairway woods. It’s Callaway’s highest launching Rogue ST fairway.

The Rogue ST LS Fairway Wood features a compact shape that’s especially suited for better players.

It has an additional forward weight screw for a low, forward CG in a neutral location making this Callaway’s lowest spinning, most fade-capable Rogue ST Fairway Wood.

Today’s Golfer test verdict

Low spin fairway woods rarely appear amongst our recommendations as their smaller heads tend to be less forgiving and harder to launch from the turf, which is the opposite of what the majority of club golfers need.

But the Rogue ST LS pulled off an impressive feat, and that’s being our longest fairway wood of 2022 (tied with the TaylorMade Stealth Plus at 251 yds), but also ranking 3rd best at protecting ball speed whilst hitting shots into our 2nd smallest dispersion area.

Our accuracy data is likely to change on subsequent test days, so don’t think this is a super forgiving model, it’s not, but it is powerful and the LS sports a cracking compact head shape.
