What we say...

Oct 2012 Fairways Test

Very unlucky to miss out on top spot in what was a hugely-competitive category. The G20 ticked pretty much every box and impressed our team with its ease of use.

David insisted that it would be hard to find a more forgiving fairway wood on the market and this, coupled with the terrific feel and sound off the face, would make this a great choice for virtually any player. His only negative was the slightly large head footprint – a small price to pay for this performance. Mick found this one of the most forgiving on test and found the feel really inspired confidence, while Anthony raved about its consistency, comfort and power.

Pro says: “It is very difficult to hit this club sideways – and that is exactly what the vast majority want from a fairway wood. The head is large but has a nice shape, a shallow face and powerful feel. Personally I’d like more workability but this is great for 95 per cent of golfers.”

Today’s Golfer Fairway Wood Test 2011 – Bronze Award Winner

Testing panel:
Stuart Priestley (Belfry Pro)
Michael Gow (HCP 7)
David Connor (HCP 10)
Alan Doodson (HCP 17)

The most recent Ping club in the G-series of woods has some pretty big shoes to fill. However, it did deliver with our testers praising Ping’s usual feel and forgiveness.

Michael was probably most impressed, insisting he would be happy to put this in his bag straight away. He said during the test that he would be surprised if he liked any other club more than this – and at the end this was still the case. It emerged as his top choice among all the clubs on show.

Stuart and David were big fans, both thinking it carried on the G-series mantle successfully. Stuart found the performance very similar to the G15 with perhaps a slightly higher ball flight although he admitted he preferred the old black crown to the newer grey model. Alan thought it was solid but struggled with shots to the right, indicating the K15 would be a better option.

The PING G20 Fairway Wood is for all ability levels. This club easily gets the ball airborne and adds yards with a low-deep center of gravity in the 17-4 stainless steel head by creating low spin with a much higher launch.
