Callaway unveil super premium new Epic Forged iron and say it’s aimed at game improvers.

There’s a real trend for brands to ramp up prices and create super expensive one off sets of premium or concept irons nowadays. It’s down to the likes of Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist and Ping having watched PXG get a foothold with their premium forged irons. Callaway’s latest super premium offering is a new Epic iron, they’re forged and aimed at game improvers (6 – 20 handicap) say Callaway.

Each head is forged from 1025 carbon steel, just like the brilliant Callaway Apex irons, but for the first time in a Callaway forged iron there’s a suspended tungsten core. It allows the centre of gravity to be precisely positioned, giving a controlled launch throughout the set.

A cup face design with new variable face thickness pattern (VFT) also promotes consistent ball speeds and spin rates. Epic won’t ever go down as value for money, but good looking forged game improver irons are pretty rare, so they’ll definitely find an audience, even at nearly £2000 a set.

Epic Forged delivers incredibly pure feel from a forged 1025 carbon steel. The turf interaction and sound at impact are exceptional, and for the first time ever, we have engineered our dynamic Suspended Tungsten Core into a forged iron.

The Suspended Tungsten Core consists of a custom tungsten weight which allows us to precisely position the center of gravity for controlled launch. This weight is wrapped in a TPU over-mold and then suspended by our patented urethane microspheres.

We’ve engineered our urethane microspheres to comprehensively absorb unwanted vibration without slowing the face. This, in turn, allows for an astonishingly thin and fast 360 Face Cup.

Together, these components promote a sublimely satisfying feel at impact, with eye- popping distance. It’s an unbelievable performance combination, and a remarkable achievement in golf club design and engineering.

To provide spin and control in the mid and long irons, we’ve implemented a new VFT pattern to promote consistent spin rates and ball speed. In the short irons, we’ve resistance welded a MIM’ed tungsten weight higher in teh body to conrol trajectory and allow for aggressive shot-making.
