2013 Irons Test
James thought the combination of being long from heel to toe, but with a thin top line, was strange. Joel didn’t like the rounded leading edge, but said it felt powerful and the Project X shaft oozed quality. For him it was a hidden gem on test that he couldn’t fault. Kit didn’t enjoy the chunky appearance while Chris felt it lacked forgiveness on mis-hits. Joel hit this long and straight while for the other testers the performance let it down.
Precipitation hardened stainless steel has been used to create a clubhead which has then been heat-treated for maximum strength and corrosion resistance. The 2.2mm face forfeits feel for power; however, any lost feel is captured by a pocket behind the impact zone, which dampens vibrations. John Letters says this thin stainless steel face boosts energy transfer to the ball by 25 per cent compared to a 3mm-faced iron.
Each set features two TR47 hybrids, while each iron is fitted with a Rifle Project X steel shaft as standard.
