What we say...

It really doesn’t get any better than this when it comes to Better- Player irons. The MP-58s are a stunning combination of aggression, finesse and Ferrari-esque good looks. They are forged from 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel billet and in terms of technology, have an 11g titanium insert forged directly into the outer muscle of the club. This increases thickness behind impact which gives the golfer a sublime level of feel while also increasing perimeter weighting to offer that bit of forgiveness that even good golfers need from time to time. Dave, who refuses to use anything other than a true blade, absolutely loved these irons and said he would love to use them week-in, week-out. Jon loved the added bit of forgiveness that the titanium insert offered and duly awarded 4.5/5 in this department, while pro Chris gave it full marks in four out of five categories. If you know your irons, the MP-58 has a thinner topline than the MP-57 and this helps to lock the CG close to the clubface which means that while the insert gives the forgiveness, you still get a piercing ball flight
off the face. Chris picked up on this and commented on his penetrating ball flight, while Dave also said he felt it was solid on the distance front. In fact, Chris perhaps summed up the quality of the MP-58 by saying that they “ticked every box, looked good, felt good and performed superbly”. High praise indeed, but that’s no surprise due to the continued quality that Mizuno produce. The Japanese giants rocked last year’s irons test, and they’ve done a great job this time around too.

Ratings (out of 5):

Distance: 3.5   Dispersion: 5   Looks: 5   Feel: 5   Forgiveness: 4.5

The next generation of Mizuno blades, the MP-58 combines the workability of a traditional muscleback with the forgiveness of multi material construction.

More forgiving than the MP-62 and more workable than the deeper weighted MP-52, the MP-58 Dual Muscle titanium iron gives shot makers a new, uncompromising alternative.

An 11 gram Titanium insert, forged directly into the outer muscle of the MP-58, increases thickness behind impact for a unique solid feel whilst dramatically increasing perimeter weighting for stability from off centre hits.

A thinner topline and sole (than the retired MP-57) anchor the MP-58’s centre of gravity close to the clubface – ensuring that increased forgiveness is not created at the expense of a penetrating ball flight or workability. The Mizuno MP-58 Irons not only won a Gold Award on this years Today's Golfer but also got the 'best on test' award as well. Each club is available at £105 a piece.
