What we say...

These are the new Mizuno MP62 irons, one of the four new additions to the Mizuno family.

These particular beauties are specifically named the Mizuno MP62 Tour Ready Dual Muscle and have been designed very much with the better player in mind.

The minimal amount of offset and a versatile soleplate, inspired by Luke Donald’s personal grind, ensures crisp ball striking which all better players are looking for.

2009 Review

This is one shiny iron! It’s a classic Mizuno – so if thats your thing, you’ll love it. Performance wise, the dual-muscle designed set got the job done, with Jon loving the extra forgiveness. Tom was less convinced, yet it producuded a superb dispersion stat. Top class.

The MP-62 is a Tour-ready profile complemented by Dual Muscle technology enhancing feel, developed following research into vibration and frequency analysis.

The design is based on the most requested adjustments and prototypes from Mizuno's Tour Workshops.

Minimal offset and a versatile sole plate inspired by Luke Donald's personal grind ensures crisp ball striking, while the centrally located centre of gravity and consistent sweet spot height dictates a neutral left / right bias.

The clubhead is grain flow forged from 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel for solid feel and distance control.

I had a set of MP-60s with Dynamic Gold stiff before, so the switch to the 62s may not be as big a jump as for others. I chose the 62s because of their neat look at address and in demos on the range, they did not seem to be as easy to hit as other similar clubs in Mizuno and other brands. I chose the black nickel finish with Project X shafts and New Decade grips. First time on the course (yesterday) was very encouraging, with the ball coming off the club with a good flight and they felt like they wanted to go straight, which is generally good. No real problems getting the ball up, and in wind they flew well, better than the S300s did before. No noticeable effect on distance, except into the wind where the ball was less affected.
