What we say...

2013 Irons Test

James has never been a fan of Ping’s “odd-shaped” irons at times, but these were far more pleasing to his eye thanks to the subtle finish and compact head. Joel agreed it was more of a traditional headshape from Ping, felt nice off the face and gave him a penetrating ball flight. Kit agreed it was a move away from the traditional Ping head shape, and liked the compact look, soft feel and high, penetrative flight. Joel agreed the combination of power, forgiveness and look was one of the best he’s seen. This club earned its award through control of distance, with the gap between the longest and shortest shots for all three testers among the lowest recorded.

South African Louis Oosthuizen won the 2010 Open at St Andrews with these, weeks before they appeared in pro shops up and down the land. Tungsten toe weights optimise the centre of gravity for higher-launching long irons and lowerlaunching short irons for more control. It’s a close call between the i20 and these for Ping’s bestlooking iron, but we think the S56 might just edge it – these are incredible irons for very good golfers. or 01427 619 224
