What we say...

Sorry to be boring, but there’s no doubt about it: the Odyssey 2-Ball is the benchmark against which all putters of the type have to be judged.

In a test like this, where you’re using many different putters over several hours, it leaps out at you. While most of the others have their idiosyncrasies, the 2-ball is simplicity itself. You just set the two discs down behind your ball on the line of your putt, pull the head back and fire. Chances are, your next task is to pick the ball out of the hole. On short putts it teaches you to go back and through with no twisting, while over longer distances the clever back weighting helps you roll the ball all the way to the hole with ease.

The DFX Blade is the latest version, darker and slightly firmer than the White Hot insert, with a more angular shape and offset shaft than the original 2-Ball mallet.

Whichever model you prefer, you won’t be alone: the 2-Ball was almost certainly the best-selling putter in the world last year, accounting for one in four putters sold in America. Stats like those don’t happen by hype alone.

Despite what once seemed like and exorbitant price, the 2-Ball has sold in its hundreds of thousands – because it really makes putting easier.
