What we say...
The Odyssey Tank blade putter comes in short options (34” and 36”) and long options (38” and 40”) and features specifically weighted components with a Tour preferred balance point for a higher MOI and greater stability through impact. The counterbalance weight (30g in long options and 40g in short options) plus a heavier head (400g) quiet the hands during the stroke. The added weight raises MOI to create more stability through impact, and engages your big muscles to promote more of a pendulum stroke that keeps your wrists from breaking down. The balance point is lower on the shaft, providing a more conventional feel that Tour players prefer. New and improved White Hot Pro insert is highly engineered for more consistent sound, feel and Tour Proven performance.
As reviewed in our 2014 Putters test: Quite a chunky putter with a lot of depth to the head. The counterbalance concept still takes some getting used to on longer putts, but we can see the attraction on shorter range. It looks lofted, but the extra weight helps it feel stable and reduce unwanted hand action. Noticed the extra weight immediately, but you can just let the head swing and it helped reduce pull. Pleasing on the eye in terms of design and colours. Soft feel, pure roll.
As reviewed in our 2013 Putters Test: James said this counter-balanced putter felt unwieldy, like he wasn’t in control of the clubhead. He found it easier to start the ball straight, but his pace control was poor. Joel faired better, mastering both pace and line quickly. Dave absolutely loved this putter. The weight and counterbalance really worked for him; he found it easy to roll it on line and he loved the classy finish on the crown. Good value for the technology, too.
