Today’s Golfer Hybrid Test 2011

Tested: July 2011
Testing panel:
Chris Ryan (Belfry Pro)
Leon Iacono (HCP 4)
David Connor (HCP 10)
Ben Miles (HCP 17)

The team thought it looked like an old-fashioned driving iron, hence the high marks off the tee. Chris really liked the strong ball flight and said it almost negated the need for a fairway wood although he did admit it is a small percentage of better golfers this would be aimed at. That didn’t put Ben off though who said he liked the looks, even with the smaller head, and found it more forgiving than he expected. It also performed well in Leon’s hands being one of his longest and straightest.

Distance: 4.5
Dispersion: 4.1
Looks: 3.9
Feel: 3.9
Forgiveness: 2.5
Fairway: 2.4
Tee: 4.3
Rough: 2.5

There’s no doubting the quality of Nike golf products is improving, and the gorgeous little VR Pro hybrid is a good example of this. Designed to suit the eye of the better player and cleaner ball-striker, the VR Pro features the new and improved Compression Channel which sits behind the face and this has led to a 21% increase in face 'hotness' when compared to the previous VR model.

As it is a better player’s rescue club, it has been designed with considerably less draw bias as better players fear the snap hook more than the fade.
