What we say...

TG’s testers were the first in Europe to get their hands on the Ping G15 hybrid. Because of the quality of its predecessor, the G10, we expected a lot from the Ping G15 hybrid and it did not disappoint. It was the joint longest on test and Jon loved it because it looks more like an iron than other hybrids. He also gave it top marks for forgiveness and performance from the rough. Chris was surprised how well it performed from the rough while Roger found it extremely forgiving on off-centre hits. It’s a Ping product, so you expect it to be top notch… and it delivers.

At address
The G15 hybrid has more of an iron look, which our test team enjoyed.

2010 Review:

If we could have got our test panel to hit shots blindfolded then this may very well have won the entire test! David, Chris and pro James all gave it top marks for forgiveness while it performed superbly well from the rough and in both distance
and dispersion stats. In fact, the only thing that let it down was the looks – the G15 is certainly one of the slimmest hybrids on test, and not uniformly popular – although Chris and James said that didn’t matter if it performed like this!

If you want a stunning club that you’ll instantly love, it won’t be the G15. The shape is unconventional for a start, and it really doesn’t look all that convincing at address. Then you hit a few shots, and realise that it’s one of the best bits of equipment you could ever spend your money on. High, powerful ball flights are brilliantly accompanied by a level of forgiveness that many of the other manufacturers simply can’t match. A large internal toe pad expands the perimeter weighting which actually makes it PING’s most forgiving hybrid ever. Not a bad price either!

  • 4 out of 5 Try before you buy

I am a high handicap golfer and decided to try the 20 degree G15 out on the range (along with the Cobra Baffler, Cleveland Launcher, Taylor Made Burner and Callaway FT Hybrid) following research I had done. I liked the offset look and feel of the club (similar to the Ben Hogan 10 degree it was replacing). I hit it farily consistently and it had a nice feel and sound when I hit it. I went back into the shop with a view to buying it, when the guy serving me said "if you like this try the i15," "isn't that for better players?" I asked, "I found it easier to hit" he answered. I took the i15 out and within ten hits I had changed my mind, for some reason I found the ball strking cleaner, the ball flight straighter and even more consistent. They're both great clubs b ut I would really look at the i15 too, if you're considering putting this in your bag.
