Today’s Golfer reviews what’s in the bag of Sepp Straka, the 2023 Ryder Cup rookie and first Austrian golfer to win on the PGA Tour.

Sepp Straka made history at The Honda Classic as he took full advantage of a final-round meltdown from Daniel Berger and an unlucky weather break for Shane Lowry to win his first PGA Tour title at the PGA National Resort & Spa.
Having become the first Austrian golfer to earn a PGA Tour card in 2018, Streka is now the first Austrian to win on the Tour. He also represented his country at the 2020 Olympics, finishing in a tie for 10th in Tokyo.
Straka’s career has continued to go from strength to strength since his 2022 breakthrough, winning a second PGA title at the 2023 John Deere Classic with a two-stroke victory in Illinois.
The win catapulted Straka into the top 30 players in the Official Golf World Rankings and was a timely reminder to European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald ahead of his September Captain’s Picks.
A T2 finish at the Open Championship swiftly followed and Straka was subsequently named as one of Donald’s six picks, making his debut for Team Europe at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome later that month.
Now 30, Straka is a Srixon staff player, carrying the brand’s bag, wearing a Srixon cap, and using their ZX7 irons, Cleveland wedges, and a Srixon ball.

Sepp Straka uses a TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus driver (9°) with a Mitsubishi Kai'li White 60 TX shaft
TaylorMade says golfers can expect a forgiving MOI-type driver but from a low spin head. The Plus tends to be a better fit for higher-speed players, those looking for a particular shot shape, and golfers who don’t regularly spray shots across the face.

What fairway wood does Sepp Straka use?
Sepp Straka uses TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway woods (15°, 21°) with Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Orange 80 TX shafts
The standard Stealth 2's head size is significantly smaller than TaylorMade’s wider body HD, so if you’re not the most confident fairway wood player there are alternatives that can better help you.
In testing, Stealth 2 was tied 3rd longest (252 yards), but distance is just a tiny part of this brilliant club's whole DNA. Its ball speed was 2mph faster than our test average, it had a higher peak height, steeper landing angle, and a fraction less spin, making it a brilliant option for hitting into greens and stopping quickly.
Our pro golfer also hit shots into a 34% smaller area than our test average, making Stealth 2 arguably the pick of the best fairway woods in 2023.

Our pro was really impressed by the feel and feedback from the ZX7, and the data it produced against its peers (see our 2021 Players’ Iron Test here)is undeniably impressive. A 7-iron carry of 168 yards was our third longest in testing, but more impressive than that was how the ZX7 combined that power with only dropping seven yards (4.2%) between on- and off-center strikes (third best), which really helps consistency and scoring on the course.

What golf ball does Sepp Straka use?

The 2023 model has a new three-piece construction, and it’s designed to fly higher and further than the standard Z-Star. Srixon like to say if your birdies start with a big tee shot then this is probably the ball for you.
Compared to the Z-Star Diamond the XV generates a little less mid-iron and wedge spin, but is also a little longer from the tee.
