What’s In The Bag: Tiger Woods

Published:

As Tiger Woods prepares for a rumoured comeback at The Masters, we take a look at what the golf clubs and ball the American superstar will have in his bag in 2022.

If ever more proof was needed that Tiger Woods moves the needle, it came when the 15-time Major Champion headed for Augusta National for a practice round at the end of March.

When the 46-year-old’s plane was picked up travelling towards The Masters venue, Twitter quickly went into meltdown with Woods’ name trending throughout the day.

His last PGA Tour appearance came in his title defence at The Masters in November 2020. He underwent back surgery shortly afterwards before a car crash in February 2021 left him with multiple serious injuries, including open fractures to his right leg.

Tiger’s only professional appearance since the crash came at the PNC Championship in December, where he and son Charlie finished as runners-up. He was deliberately coy about his PGA Tour return during a press conference while hosting February’s Genesis Invitational.

“I wish I could tell you when I’m playing again; I want to know. But I don’t. My golf activity has been very limited. I can chip and putt really well. And hit short irons very well. But I haven’t hit any long stuff seriously.

“I’m still working on the walking part. My foot was a little messed up there a year ago. My walking I’m still working on. Getting strength back. It takes time. What’s frustrating is my timetable. I want to be at a certain place and I’m not. I’m getting better, yes. But not at the speed I would like. It’s frustrating.’’

Woods, who said he’d been using a buggy, described his golf “weekend warrior stuff’’ and not at the level required to play on the PGA Tour.

“To play six rounds, pre-tournament practice, four competitive days. . . it’s the cumulative effect of all that,’’ he said. “I’m still working to get to that point.’’

However, confirmation of Woods’ practice round at Augusta just a week before The Masters, coupled with him being listed among players in the field for the 2022 tournament on the official website, has seen excitement grow.

If he does tee it up at the year’s first Major, Woods will have the TaylorMade Stealth Plus driverfairway wood and Stealth Rescue in the bag, and has described the new big stick as “truly an amazing product”.

Woods uses a full bag of TaylorMade clubs, with the exception of his famous Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter. He plays a Bridgestone golf ball and wears Nike apparel, shoes and glove.

Let’s take an in-depth look at what is in Woods’ golf bag for 2022.
