The Spieth brand is growing. Under Armour brought us the Spieth 1 – the brand’s first-ever signature shoe – last year and now they’ve debuted a super-stylish, second edition for the 2018 season.

The three-time Major winner unveiled the Spieth 2 under the bright lights of Las Vegas, and with the help of his Under Armour teammate Michael Phelps.

We were there to see it, playing golf with Spieth at Shadow Creek and then joining him and Phelps for a glitzy presentation at Topgolf Las Vegas.

That’s where the big unveil took place, and included an exclusive first look at the “game changing” technology and four new colourways.

The world No.3, who wore the shoes at the Phoenix Open for the first time, told us exclusively: “The Spieth 2 is a great transition from the Spieth 1. The look is cleaner, and the technology and fabric makes the shoe lighter. In building any shoe, the whole point is functionality – shoes which improve performance.

“Everyone determines power in the golf swing from ground force up, and our research with force plates shows that these shoes help you stay connected with the ground for longer so you can maximise that power. The Spieth 2 is designed for the better player, who wants performance out of the shoe.”

Phelps, a self-confessed “shoe snob,” wore a pair during his round with Spieth and Bryce Harper at Shadow Creek and said: “They were very, very comfortable. I’m very picky with my shoes and I loved them.”

Made using 100% GORE-TEX for complete breathability and waterproof protection, the Spieth 2 also features ultra-strong TPU fibres woven into the upper, which combines with rotational resistance spikes to keep the outsole and insole of the foot ‘locked in’ during the backswing and follow-through.

The Spieth 2 retails at £160. One BOA option is also available, RRP £180.

Swing Stabiliser: UA’s Rotational Resistance Spikes, which debuted on the outsole of the Spieth 1, keep the foot ‘locked in’ and connected to the ground for longer to maximise traction. The cleats are also designed with an under-cut, which slides in to the turf and prevents the foot from overtwisting during the loading phase of the swing. Clever, hey?

Weight Saving Layers: The Spieth 2 is two ounces lighter compared to the Spieth 1, thanks in part to a single seam of TPU fibres being woven in to the trendier, textile upper around the heel. There’s also a removable EVA midsole for extra cushioning and convenience. 

100% Waterproof Protection: A Gore-Tex membrane – a feature in UA rain suits – has been integrated into the fabric to prevent water from entering allow perspiration to escape at a faster rate. 

Sleek and Secure: An integrated lacing system closes the entire upper around your foot – as opposed to just tightening the laces – for added stability while swinging.
