The Belfry: Where your society can play in the footsteps of golf’s champions

Published:

Following in the footsteps of your childhood heroes is a very special sensation but nothing is better than wandering fairways graced by golf’s greats with your mates.

That is why golf societies are great, for many golfers, including me, it is how we are first bought into the game as we all know once you get that buzz you’re hooked…

More and more golfers are playing via society groups and it is easy to see the attraction of this form of golf.

If you are thinking of setting up a society below are a few things to think about when setting up your society and a details of a great offer from one of the most iconic courses in golf tailored to society groups.

First things first you need to ensure that you have enough people interested in joining the golf society before setting one up and work out how you are going to finance it.

It is definitely worth registering your new society with the English Golf Union Society Scheme which encourages groups of golfers to form well run society groups and adds that little bit of credibility your group.

Details of this can can be found on the English Golf Union website.

Choosing your first venue is a very exciting but important decision, I always think it is best to start off on a high note and you will find the majority of clubs are incredibly welcoming towards societies and often offer great value for money.

Back in August our society enjoyed a bank holiday weekend at the Belfry, which even the Great British weather couldn’t put a downer on and walking down corridors past former Ryder Cup changing rooms is a very special feeling.

Sadly, none of our group managed to emulate Seve Ballesteros by driving the iconic 10th green instead we all opted to lay up and chip over, instead of risking a scorecard wrecker.

Societies and corporate groups are an important part of what is on offer at the Belfry as their Director of Golf Ian Knox explains.

“The society or corporate golf day has long been established as the perfect day out of the office – just as long as it runs smoothly. Choosing the Belfry as your host venue ensures that you won’t have any hiccups, thanks to our experience, our efficiency and world-class facilities.”

“The Belfry’s central location in the very heart of England is a great reason to choose it for your society golf day or golf event. Apart from being easily accessible from just about anywhere, nowhere can rival our heritage as a four-time Ryder Cup host venue.

“Everyone has heard of the Belfry thanks to its special contributions to golf history, and that’s exactly what adds to the allure of hosting your event there.”

The Belfry are currently offering 2017 group and society bookings from £99 per person if booked before the 31st of October as well as 1 in 12 going free and 20% off beverage in Sam’s Club House. For full details visit their website.
