Golf World Magazine April Issue

Golf World Cover April 2014

Ever wanted to know how Rory McIlroy – at just 5ft 9in tall and 160lbs – can crush the ball 30 yards past Tiger Woods? You can find out in the April issue of Golf World. In addition to an exclusive feature on how the Northern Irishman looks to have put a thoroughly miserable 2013 behind him, we take a close up look at where that incredible power comes from and how we believe he will put it to better use in 2014.

In this issue, we also talk to former World No.1 Lee Westwood. Just over a year ago, Westwood followed in the footsteps of Justin Rose, Ian Poulter and several other top European players in moving to Florida to compete full-time on the PGA Tour. Twelve months on, John Huggan asked Westwood whether things are still going to plan in his preparations for winning his first major championship.

Elsewhere, up-and-coming European Tour player Tommy Fleetwood shows you how to hit longer, straighter drives, better long-irons and more consistent bunker shots, while we examine the technique of the world’s hottest player right now Zach Johnson.

In our Ryder Cup countdown series, we profile the unluckiest men in the history of the event – Ray Floyd, Lanny Wadkins and David Gilford – who were forced to sit out of the Sunday singles when a player from the opposing team had to withdraw through injury. As you can imagine in such a high-pressure atmosphere, there have been accusations of gamesmanship and players feigning injury, as well as heated discussion about the process of deciding whose name goes into the dreaded ‘envelope’.

During the past 10 years or so, players from Korea have dominated the LPGA Tour, while we have also seen teenage golfers from China competing in the Masters and European Tour events. We examine the learning and teaching cultures that countries from the Far East are using to produce tournament ready golfers at such a young age.

And if you’re looking for great places to play, we take you to Doonbeg in Ireland (recently purchased by Donald Trump) in our Top-100 courses spotlight, introduce you to the best courses in the Western Algarve and recommend Dubai as a dream destination.
