From 2008 the European Tour Qualifying School will be heading north of the border for the first time in its history, as Dundonald Links on the stunning Ayrshire coastline has been confirmed by The European Tour as the first ever Scottish golf course to host Pre-Qualifying Stage 1.

Dundonald Links, situated near the legendary golfing town of Troon is a classic and challenging links style golf course, designed by revered architect Kyle Phillips and owned by Loch Lomond Golf Club. Measuring 7,300 yards from the Championship tees, the course meanders its way effortlessly through the surrounding dunes and is already regarded by many as one of the best new courses in the world.

The European Tour Qualifying School has a long history of producing some of the finest talents in the game. Comprising two initial pre-qualifying stages, held at a number of venues throughout Europe, followed by a rigorous six-round Final Qualifying, competitors are thoroughly tested on all aspects of the game that are required to make it onto The European Tour.

“We are extremely proud that Dundonald Links has been selected as the inaugural Scottish venue for European Tour Qualifying School,” commented John Caven, Director of Operations for Dundonald Links. The course has already hosted final qualifying for the Senior British Open Championship and in the near future will be the venue for the 2008 Scottish Mid-Amateur. It is also the regular home of the Duke of York Young Champions Trophy, which attracts many of the leading juniors from around Europe.

“I firmly believe that Dundonald will showcase golf in Scotland to the very highest order and present a true test of golf to all the competitors looking to make their way on to the European Tour.”

“I think it is only fitting that a country with such a storied history and passion for the game of golf as Scotland has will be hosting the European Tour Qualifying School from next year,” said Mike Stewart, Senior Tournament Director & Qualifying School Director of The European Tour.
